UN Security Council condemns Iran’s attacks on Gulf States, but not on Israel: A stark example of anti-Israel bias

Resolution 2817 exposes the UN’s double standards: Seven Arab states are protected by international law, while the Jewish state is left to stand alone

In a move that mirrors a century-old pattern of selective memory, the UN Security Council has once again chosen to weaponize a partial truth to advance a specific political agenda. Just as international bodies frequently "forget" legal foundations to isolate Israel today, Resolution 2817 provides a masterclass in diplomatic hypocrisy: shielding Arab sovereignty while systematically ignoring the existential threat against the Jewish state.

This strategic silence is not a diplomatic oversight; it is a continuation of what was previously described as the "Forgotten Partition of 1922." Just as the UN today ignores Israeli blood to protect Gulf oil, international courts have spent decades ignoring the 80% of the Palestinian Mandate territory already allocated to the Arabs in 1922. This blatant manipulation of the narrative once again exhibits the UN’s forfeiture of its moral authority.

On March 11, 2026, the UN Security Council passed Resolution 2817 with a rare show of unity: 13 votes in favor, zero against, with Russia and China abstaining. The resolution demands that Iran immediately cease its "brazen" missile and drone attacks on Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Jordan. It explicitly warns Tehran against any interference with shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a chokepoint for 20% of the world’s global oil supply.

What is stunning is the silence. The text is surgically silent regarding Israel, the primary target of Iran’s war machine. This omission is staggering, given that by today, March 17, Israel has endured 17 major ballistic missile salvos, including the heavy barrages that struck Rishon Lezion and Shoham just yesterday, March 16.

Consider the dots: the UN celebrated its "unity" on the 11th, yet by remaining silent on Israel, they effectively signaled to Tehran that the Jewish state was fair game. Iran responded by launching one of its most aggressive strikes of the war only five days later. In diplomacy, what you don't say is often louder than what you do.

Resolution 2817: The Cold Hard Facts

  • The Vote: Adopted 13-0-2. While the US, UK, and France voted "Yes" to protect their Gulf allies, Russia and China abstained. A Russian attempt to include language condemning "all parties" (a veiled jab at Israel) failed to gain traction.

  • The Demands: The resolution invokes Chapter VII language, hinting at potential sanctions or military enforcement. It demands Iran halt its proxies and respect the sovereignty of its Arab neighbors.

  • The Omission: Despite Iran’s formal declaration of war against Israel on February 28, 2026, the Security Council refused to include the Jewish state in the protective scope of this resolution.

The Numbers Don't Lie

Since its inception, the UN’s obsession with the tiny State of Israel has been a statistical anomaly. The contrast between how the UN handles the "Sponsor of Global Terror" (Iran) versus the "Sole Democracy in the Middle East" (Israel) is staggering:

Country/Entity

UNSC Resolutions Against

(1946–2026)

Key Context

Israel

68

Focused on settlements and Jerusalem. The US has vetoed nearly 50 more.

Iran

12

Mostly nuclear-related; territorial aggression is rarely condemned.

North Korea

15

Strictly focused on nuclear/missile tests.

Syria (Assad)

3

Russia has used its veto 17 times to protect the regime.

Hezbollah

5

Most (like Resolution 1701) are routinely ignored.

The Bottom Line: Israel faces nearly one-third of all Middle East-related UNSC resolutions, despite being the size of New Jersey. Iran, the architect of the current regional chaos, is handled with "kid gloves" until the moment Western oil supplies are threatened.

The hypocrisy of Resolution 2817 was foreseen by the prophets. Psalm 83 describes a coalition of nations plotting to "cut them [Israel] off from being a nation," yet promises that God will scatter them like chaff before the wind.

For the believer, Zechariah 12:3 is the definitive warning: “On that day… I will make Jerusalem a heavy stone for all peoples. All who lift it will be severely injured.” The UN lifts that stone selectively, polishing it when it serves the Gulf states, but trying to shatter it when it comes to the Jews.

Isaiah 5:20 speaks directly to the diplomats in the UN chamber: “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil.” By condemning attacks on Jordan and the UAE while remaining silent on the bombardment of Jerusalem, the UN has officially labeled the defense of Israel as "evil" and the protection of oil as "good."

The Hypocrisy of the Nations

  • The Gulf Double-Speak: While nations like the UAE and Saudi Arabia have moved toward normalization via the Abraham Accords, they remained silent on this UN text, failing to insist that their new Israeli partners receive the same protections they enjoy.

  • The European "Lecture": France continues to lecture Israel on "international law," yet enthusiastically voted for a resolution that grants "Threat to Peace" status to the Gulf but denies it to the Jewish state.

  • The Global South: 135 co-sponsors stood up for the flow of trade through Hormuz, but many of those same nations vote daily at the General Assembly to condemn Israel’s right to self-defense.

The UN has chosen to protect the flow of goods, but ignores the flow of blood in the streets of Israel. We must support Israel boldly, knowing that while the courts of man are rigged, the Judge of all the earth will do right (Genesis 18:25). We stand on the promise of Genesis 12:3: “I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”

Nations fail. God does not.
