Syrian Kurds criticize Israel: ‘You’re advancing in talks with Al-Sharaa – we are facing a massacre'
Kurds slam Israel’s insufficient response amid talks with Syria
A senior official in the Kurdish forces in Syria sharply criticized Israel’s conduct, following Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar’s condemnation of recent attacks by the forces of al-Sharaa’s regime. His remarks were reported this morning on KAN News.
Clashes between the Syrian government and the Kurdish minority in the north of the country have intensified recently, following regime attacks in the Aleppo area over the past few days.
Last night, Sa’ar issued a statement calling on the international community to act against the attacks, just two days after the resumption of talks between Israel and the Damascus government under U.S. mediation.
Within the Kurdish forces in Syria, officials emphasize that the foreign minister’s statement is insufficient. A senior official told KAN that every time talks between Israel and the Syrian regime make progress, the regime increases pressure on minorities in the country: “In the past, it was the Druze, and now it’s the Kurds. We are grateful to Foreign Minister Sa’ar for his positions, but on the ground, Israel does nothing. We are facing a massacre – so what good are statements?”
The official called on Israel to take concrete measures rather than limit itself to condemnations: “Action is needed at the international level. Israel should make the actual protection of minorities conditional upon the Syrian regime, not merely talk about it.”
