PM Netanyahu says Israel is ‘systematically dismantling the IRGC’s money machine’ after strike on largest Iranian petrochemical facility

DM Katz: About 85% of Iran’s petrochemical exports have been taken out of use

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Israel is systematically targeting the Iranian regime’s systems for earning funds by destroying its petrochemical factories amid recent strikes, while praising the U.S.-Israel alliance in a statement on Monday.

Following a phone call with Trump on Sunday, Netanyahu said the U.S. president thanked him “for the assistance Israel provided in this mission."

"In general, he spoke of us in superlatives. He said: 'You guys are great.' He views Israel as a steadfast, determined, and firm ally that fights shoulder-to-shoulder alongside the United States, and together, we are continuing to crush Iran's regime of terror,” Netanyahu said of Trump.

Netanyahu also confirmed earlier statements from the IDF and Defense Minister Israel Katz that the Israeli Air Force had destroyed the largest petrochemical plant in Iran, after striking another factory several days ago.

“This means we are systematically dismantling the IRGC's money machine. We are destroying factories, eliminating operatives, and yes, we are continuing to eliminate senior officials.”

According to Katz, the strike on the factory in Asaluyeh, responsible for about 50% of the petrochemical production, means that “the two facilities – which together are responsible for about 85% of Iran’s petrochemical exports – have been taken out of use and are not functioning.”

“This is a severe economic blow on the scale of tens of billions of dollars to the Iranian regime. The petrochemical industry is a central engine in financing the activity of the Revolutionary Guards and in the force buildup of Iran’s military,” Katz explained.

He said that he and Netanyahu instructed the IDF to continue strikes on Iranian infrastructure. This comes amid reports that Israel is waiting on a final green light from Washington to launch a broad series of strikes targeting energy and infrastructure sites in Iran if the regime ignores the president’s deadline for opening the Hormuz Strait by early Tuesday, Israel time.

The IDF, in its statement, said that the Asaluyeh plant produced materials “used in the manufacture of explosives and propellants for ballistic missiles and additional weaponry,” and was a main hub for essential components of the missile industry.

“The damage to this infrastructure will disrupt the regime’s ability to use these materials for the production of various types of weapons intended to target the State of Israel and other countries in the Middle East.”

Earlier on Sunday, the IDF announced strikes against senior Iranian operatives and several IRGC Air Force targets.

“Yesterday (Sunday), the Israeli Air Force, acting on precise IDF intelligence, conducted a strike in Tehran and eliminated Asghar Bagheri, Commander of the Quds Force’s Special Operations Unit (840) since 2019,” the Israeli military announced.

“Bagheri planned and advanced terror attacks against the State of Israel, including operations carried out within Israel, as well as in Syria and Lebanon.”

In a large-scale wave of strikes, dozens of Israeli Air Force fighter jets targeted “numerous aerial assets, including aircraft and helicopters, as well as additional military infrastructure at three airports across Tehran: Bahram Airport, Mehrabad Airport, and Azmayesh Airport.”

Mehrabad Airport, which has been targeted multiple times, was used by the IRGC Quds Force and “served as a central hub for arming and financing the regime’s terrorist proxies in the Middle East. Aircraft carrying weapons and large sums of cash departed from this airport on numerous occasions, landing across the region for use by the regime’s proxies,” said the IDF.

On Sunday morning, the IDF also announced the elimination of Majid Khademi, the IRGC's intelligence chief. Katz commented on the strike, saying, "Iran's leaders live with a sense of persecution. We will continue to hunt them down one by one."

Netanyahu, in his concluding statement, asserted, “Iran is no longer the same Iran, and Israel is no longer the same Israel. Israel is stronger than ever, and the terrorist regime in Iran is weaker than ever. And what is the key? What is the secret? Faith and power. We have both in abundance.”
