Iranian opposition leader Pahlavi thanks Trump, vows Israel recognition, ‘Cyrus Accords’ under free Iran
Reza Pahlavi, the son of the former Iranian shah who heads the Iranian democratic opposition, thanked U.S. President Donald Trump for launching Operation "Epic Fury," together with Israel in a Washington Post op-ed on Sunday.
The Israeli and U.S. Air Forces eliminated Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, as well as dozens of top Iranian military and regime officials, on Saturday.
Pahlavi stressed that the Islamic Republic of Iran oppresses its people and embraces a radical ideology of Islamist imperialism and global terrorism.
“For nearly half a century, the Islamic Republic has not behaved as a state among states. Instead, it has operated as an expansionist revolutionary enterprise, subverting neighbors’ sovereignty, fueling conflicts around the world, and pursuing nuclear weapons and the long-range missiles to deliver them,” Pahlavi wrote.
The exiled Iranian opposition leader said the ayatollah regime’s hostility toward the United States stands in stark contrast to what he described as the Iranian people’s appreciation for the country.
“Unlike the Iranian regime’s hatred for America, the people of Iran love America. They are grateful to this exceptional nation for giving my nation a chance at freedom. President Trump and many U.S. lawmakers have expressed solidarity with the Iranian people. For that support, we are deeply grateful,” Pahlavi said.
Hailing the Arab-Israeli Abraham Accords, he vowed that a free Iran would recognize Israel and re-establish diplomatic relations with the Jewish state.
“A free Iran would extend that breakthrough by immediately recognizing Israel and pursuing a broader regional peace framework linking Iran, Israel and our Arab neighbors in cooperation rather than conflict,” he stated.
He added, “I suggest calling the agreement the Cyrus Accords, for Cyrus the Great, the benevolent ancient Persian ruler whom Thomas Jefferson cited as an inspiration. Such an agreement would replace the regime’s ideology of hostility with a foundation for peace.”
Pahlavi has previous highlighted the historic friendship between the Iran and Israel and urged the nations to begin a new peaceful chapter.
Last month, Pahlavi vowed that a free Iran would restore relations with the United States and expand Middle Eastern peace by forging peace with the Jewish state.
“We will pursue the expansion of the Abraham Accords into the Cyrus Accords, bringing together a free Iran, Israel, and the Arab world,” Pahlavi said in January. At the time, he also pledged that a free Iran would end the ayatollah regime’s support for regional armed groups, including Hamas in Gaza, Hezbollah in Lebanon and the Houthis in Yemen.
“Support for terrorist groups will cease immediately. A free Iran will work with regional and global partners to confront terrorism, organized crime, drug trafficking, and extremist Islamism,” Pahlavi stated.
“The fall of the Islamic Republic and the establishment of a secular, democratic government in Iran will not only restore dignity to my people, it will benefit the region and the world.”
