4 months after launch, Trump’s Gaza Board of Peace has received no donations – report
U.S. President Donald Trump’s Board of Peace (BoP) fund for the reconstruction of Gaza remains empty, the Financial Times reported on Wednesday. Despite promises of donations totaling $17 billion, the fund has not received a single dollar from donors, according to the report.
According to four sources, "Zero dollars have been deposited." Some donations bypass the World Bank mechanism and are transferred directly to the BoP's JPMorgan account via an unofficial channel, but even there, there has been little significant funding for Gaza’s reconstruction. As a result, less information is available to the public about the scale of these funds and how they are being used. Donations processed through the World Bank are subject to reporting requirements for donors and board members, while those routed through JPMorgan are not subject to the same level of transparency.
It was further reported that only small amounts have been transferred so far: approximately $20 million from Morocco to fund the office of BoP Director-General Nickolay Mladenov and salaries for the technocratic Palestinian committee, while $100 million from the United Arab Emirates for training a new police force remains frozen.
Because not a single U.S. dollar has been invested in reconstruction, the BoP reportedly finds itself in a legal and political limbo without clear authority on the ground. The board has yet to award contracts, partly because Hamas has not disarmed and remains in power in the Gaza Strip.
In February, Israel informed the United States that it would not contribute money to operate the Board of Peace, as first published by Kan News on Reshet Bet. Countries that joined the board were asked to contribute to its operating expenses, with Qatar and the UAE announcing they would donate over a billion dollars each.
