The Israeli military and the Shin Bet security agency announced on Thursday that a senior commander from Iran’s Quds Force intelligence unit, who was planning terror attacks on Israel from Syria and Lebanon, was eliminated.

An Israeli drone strike killed Hussein Mahmoud Marshad al-Jawhari, a key figure in the Unit 840 operations unit, which has been responsible for a majority of Iranian attacks against Israel in recent years.

The Israeli military released drone footage showing the assassination of the top commander in the town of Ansariyeh, an area in southwestern Lebanon.

According to the joint statement issued by Shin Bet and IDF, Al-Jawhari "operated under the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and was involved in terror activities, directed by Iran, against the State of Israel and its security forces."

Since the U.S.-brokered ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah in November 2024, the Israeli military says the Tehran-backed Lebanese terror group has violated the requirement to end its military presence south of the Litani River.

Israeli forces have been carrying out strikes on the Hezbollah storage facilities in Lebanon as part of an effort to stop Hezbollah from rebuilding and re-establishing its infrastructure.

The IDF also said that several Hezbollah rocket and launch positions in southern Lebanon were targeted with airstrikes on Wednesday evening. Later on Thursday, the IDF struck a Hezbollah terrorist in the village of Al-Jamijmah in southern Lebanon.

Hezbollah has rejected all calls to disarm, instead pushing for dialogue over what it says is a national “defense strategy” against the State of Israel.
