Three soldiers of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) were lightly wounded in two separate terror attacks in Judea and Samaria on Monday evening and Tuesday morning, respectively, amid a general uptick in terrorism in the area in recent weeks.

On Tuesday morning, IDF soldiers were dispatched to Route 465 near the town of Ateret in Samaria, following reports about a suspicious person.

When the soldiers confronted the suspect, he began stabbing and injured two soldiers, who responded with fire and eliminated him.

The IDF added that the details of the incident would be further reviewed.

Magen David Adom medics Bezalel Ben Hamo and Orly Shlomo recounted, “We arrived quickly at the scene, and saw two young men walking around fully conscious, with superficial injuries to their bodies. We provided them with initial medical treatment and evacuated them to the hospital.”

Late Monday night, a terrorist ran over a female IDF soldier at a junction near the town of Kiryat Arba in Judea.

The terrorist managed to flee in his vehicle despite soldiers opening fire and reporting a hit. Security forces immediately launched a manhunt in the Hebron area.

According to the military, “overnight (Tuesday), the terrorist was identified in the Hebron area by the security forces while inside the vehicle he used to carry out the attack. During the apprehension attempt, the terrorist attempted to flee while endangering the forces, who responded with live fire and eliminated the terrorist.”

The IDF vowed that “security forces will continue to operate to thwart terrorism in the area, and against anyone who harms or attempts to cause harm to Israeli civilians and the security forces.”

Hamas praised the attack on Monday, calling it “a response to the crimes of the occupation in Judea and Samaria and in the Gaza Strip” and blaming them on the “intensification of Israeli actions in the field.”

Another attack on Saturday had nearly killed an Israeli driver, when a metal rod was thrown at her vehicle and only missed her by several centimeters.

Merav Ben Avraham (23), who was sitting next to the driver, told Ynet News, “Three minutes before the Trans-Samaria checkpoint – we heard a boom. We saw the bar in the vehicle, we panicked and thought it was an attack.”

The attacker is still at large after the IDF troops raided the nearby village of Masha.

IDF Chief of Staff, Lt.-Gen. Eyal Zamir conducted a tour and situational assessment at several hotspots of activity in Judea and Samaria on Monday, particularly in the area of five towns in northern Samaria where the IDF is carrying out a broad counterterror operation called 'Five Stones.'

“Central Command has been leading an intensified, offensive campaign against terrorism in Judea and Samaria, the Jordan Valley, and the valleys for the past two years. We launched Operation ‘Five Stones’ in northern Samaria following attempts to establish a terrorist organization in the Homesh area and the identification of several wanted individuals who fled there,” Zamir said.

He was also presented with preliminary results from the investigation of the killing of two terrorists who had surrendered to Israeli soldiers in Jenin last week.

Zamir noted that “these are events that require an in-depth inquiry, and an instruction has been given to complete the operational investigation immediately after the conclusion of the ongoing Department of Internal Investigations inquiry.”

According to Ynet News, three soldiers were questioned after the incident and later released. Police collected the footage from their helmet cameras and will take their personal weapons for ballistic testing.

Zamir concluded, “We are operating continuously to thwart terrorism and its infrastructure; we will strengthen the defense and security of the communities in Judea and Samaria. We will not allow the terrorist threat to grow, and we will work to thwart it in advance through proactive offensive activity.”
