'Red Flag': President Herzog warns against New York City Mayor-elect Mamdani's 'hostility' toward Israel
Israeli President Isaac Herzog sharply criticized New York’s mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani late last Sunday night.
In a speech in New York, Herzog called Mamdani’s statements against immigration to Israel and against Zionism “scandalous.” Herzog said that the results of the New York elections should raise a red flag.
“The mayor-elect of New York makes no effort to hide his hostility toward Israel, the only state of the Jewish people,” Herzog said in a speech at a Yeshiva University event, during which he received an honorary doctorate.
He said that in the face of hatred and slander, “we must fight resolutely and without fear,” and that all legal and public tools available should be used for this purpose.
“The Jewish people have been through hell, and yet we are here — and we will prevail,” the president said.
Herzog praised U.S. President Donald Trump for his plan to end the war in Gaza.
“I thank the President from the bottom of my heart for his leadership and his support for Israel. I pray that he succeeds in realizing his vision for a new horizon in the Middle East,” Herzog said.
