Son of Iran’s former Supreme Leader linked to two luxury properties overlooking Israeli Embassy in London
It has been revealed that Mojtaba Khamenei, recently chosen to succeed his late father Ayatollah Khamenei as leader of the Islamic Regime, owns two apartments overlooking the Israeli Embassy in London as part of his £50 million property portfolio in the British capital.
The discovery presents a serious security vulnerability, as both luxury apartments have a direct line of sight to the Israeli compound and are just 50 meters away, providing a “permanent surveillance platform” to the Islamic Regime, according to security expert Roger McMillan. Speaking as former head of security at Iran International news outlet, McMillan considers the apartments more than simply part of a property portfolio, but as representing a real security threat.
The revelations came after an investigation by U.S. news agency Bloomberg, which discovered the two apartments were purchased in 2014 for £16.7 million and £19 million, equivalent to around $48 million combined.
The properties are on the sixth and seventh floors in the same building with servants’ quarters on the ground floor, and are located in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, close to Kensington Palace, overlooking the embassy. They are just two of 13 London properties belonging to Khamenei, with another 11 mansions in Hampstead, North London, most of which are vacant.
While Iran is facing a crippling economic crisis with inflation spiraling out of control, the Bloomberg investigation uncovered a global property portfolio belonging to Khamenei worth hundreds of millions of pounds.
YNet reports that all 13 of Khamenei’s properties in London have been subject to restrictions imposed by the British Treasury since October last year, preventing their sale. However, no action has yet been taken regarding the serious security threat to the Israeli embassy in Kensington.
Two days before the Bloomberg findings were released, four suspects, one Iranian and three dual British-Iranian nationals, were detained according to the Metropolitan Police, accused of surveilling Jewish sites and individuals in London’s Jewish community. They had been gathering information about synagogues in London and the people who attend them.
Head of Counter Terrorism Policing London, Commander Helen Flanagan, told I24 News that the arrests were part of a long-running investigation and their “ongoing work to disrupt malign activity.” She added that the public, and particularly the Jewish community, should remain vigilant and report any concerns. The Israeli National Security Council has also warned of increased hostile activity linked to Iranian security agencies and urged vigilance.
The current whereabouts of Mojtaba Khamenei, 56, are unknown. He is presumed injured or in hiding and has not appeared in public since his selection on Sunday.
President Donald Trump told Fox News that he is "not happy" with Iran's choice of Mojtaba Khamenei as the new supreme leader, saying he does not believe Mojtaba Khamenei "can live in peace."
