New logo appears to be attempt to unofficially link NCAG to Palestinian Authority

The Israeli government sharply criticized the new civil administration for Gaza after it changed its logo to one almost identical to that of the Palestinian Authority, which Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had repeatedly vowed would not take part in the administration of the enclave.

On Monday evening, the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG) changed its logo, announcing the change in a post to its official Facebook page.

The committee gave no reason for the change in official logo, which came after it had released two public statements under the previous logo that same day.

The previous logo depicted a phoenix-like bird with the colors of the Palestinian flag, rising out of a city landscape, and has been used by the committee since it was first established in January.

“The logo of the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG) which was presented to Israel was entirely different from the one published this evening,” the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) protested in an official statement.

“Israel will not accept the use of a Palestinian Authority symbol; the Palestinian Authority will have no part in the administration of Gaza,” the statement added.

One of the first to notice the new logo was Israeli journalist for i24 News, Amichai Stein, who criticized the government in a post to 𝕏.

“‘A committee will be established to manage Gaza whose members are not PA.’ Do you remember something like that?” Stein asked. “So here is the new logo of the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG) and it includes the official symbol of the Palestinian Authority.”

Former Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman also called attention to the new logo in a post to 𝕏, claiming that the coalition government is transferring control of Gaza to the Palestinian Authority.

“Finally, the October 7 government has transferred control of Gaza to the Palestinian Authority! This, of course, is in addition to allowing the entry of aid trucks, fuel, and electricity to the Hamas terrorists.”

Liberman attacked the government’s leadership, saying, “We were promised a 'total victory,' and we received a complete humiliation. This weak leadership must be ousted, and it would be better to do so an hour earlier!”

An organization representing IDF reservists, called "Generation Victory," also protested the change of the logo, quoting a famous speech by Netanyahu while criticizing him: “Mr. Prime Minister, it’s time to stop playing make-believe. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck—it’s a duck. Today it’s clear: the ‘Peace Council’ means one thing—bringing the Palestinian Authority into the management of Gaza and rehabilitating Hamas, which will inevitably lead to the next massacre."

The new logo appears to be an attempt by the NCAG to link itself to the PA, despite the peace agreement requiring it to be an independent body under the oversight of the Gaza Executive Board

Despite the earlier promise by Prime Minister Netanyahu that “the day after in Gaza, there will be neither Hamas nor the Palestinian Authority,” several of the 15 members of the NCAG are previous officials from the Palestinian Authority government.

Two statements released by the NCAG on Monday before the logo change, displaying the previous logo.

At present, the committee members are meeting in Egypt, and the committee itself is largely limited to logistical and technical administration. The committee is expected to transition to Gaza at some point, however, no estimate for when that will happen has been shared by the NCAG.

The Israeli government has said that it will not support any role for the PA in Gaza, and is limiting its interactions with and support for the Ramallah-based PA until it makes significant reforms, such as permanently ending its payments to terrorists and their families.

The Gaza Peace Plan put forward by the United States under the oversight of President Donald Trump allows for a future role for the PA in Gaza, provided it completes several reforms, which have yet to be implemented.
