IDF has destroyed 2,200 regime targets in Iran, plans to continue at least 3 more weeks to degrade military capabilities

Israel sees ‘cracks’ in stability but is ‘conservative’ about chances for regime change

The Israeli military has so far struck 2,200 Iranian regime targets, mostly in Tehran and western Iran, with a new focus on degrading the regime’s defense industries to deepen the damage to its military capabilities for years ahead.

IDF officials told media outlets that the joint campaign is still proceeding according to plan and even at a faster pace than predicted.

Despite this, the regime is not indicating signs of an imminent collapse. A senior Israeli official told the Times of Israel that there are “signs of cracks,” explaining the strikes are “creating the conditions” for collapse, but that, “at the end of the day, it’s up to the Iranian people.”

“It may take time, but this is not an endless war and we are far ahead of schedule,” he noted.

However, the Jerusalem Post cited officials who said the IDF remains “conservative” in its assessment of the chances that Iranian opposition forces could topple the regime.

Asked about this issue at a press briefing on Sunday evening, IDF Spokesman Brig.-Gen. Effie Defrin said the IDF, as an institution, doesn’t “have a goal of toppling a regime. We do not topple regimes.”

“But we do create the conditions and destabilize it so that over time the Iranian people will take their fate into their own hands and reclaim this country that was taken hostage by this terror regime,” he added.

IDF officials estimate that between 4,000 and 5,000 Iranian soldiers, including IRGC operatives and troops of the internal security forces and Basij, have been killed so far. Tens of thousands more have been wounded.

Defrin said, “We also struck the regime’s repression mechanisms – the Basij, internal security, and the notorious intelligence headquarters. So far, we have attacked more than 500 command-and-control targets. These strikes allow us to undermine the regime’s ability to manage its attacks.”

Speaking to CNN earlier, Defrin said the IDF has “thousands” of targets left to strike, and is ready to continue the campaign, “in coordination with our US allies, with plans through at least the Jewish holiday of Passover, about three weeks from now. And we have deeper plans for even three weeks beyond that.”

In addition to targeting the regime’s suppression forces, strikes have focused on ballistic missile and drone arrays that continue to threaten Israel directly. Military officials also report signs of declining morale among IRGC troops, including cases of soldiers refusing to serve, abandoning their posts, or deserting altogether.

Israeli strikes destroyed dozens of additional launchers in recent days, with the IDF saying it has destroyed or disabled around 70% of Iran’s estimated 500 launchers so far.

The Israeli Air Force (IAF) continues to exert air supremacy over most of the country after destroying some 100 air defense systems and around 120 radar detection systems.

The military also noted that sites connected to the nuclear program have been struck, including research and development sites as well as companies building components for the weapons program, with the most prominent strikes coming at the Taleghan and Minzadehei sites.

Iran’s military industry has increasingly become a focus of the strikes. Officials told the Times of Israel that, unlike last year’s 12-Day War in June, the current campaign aims to eliminate the regime’s “strategic threat” to Israel for the foreseeable future by destroying its weapons production capabilities.

So far, over 1,700 assets of Iran’s military industry have been hit, and hundreds are expected to be targeted.
