Trump should tell Saudi Crown Prince MBS, 'Thanks, but no thanks,' to any deal that includes a Palestinian state
I do appreciate the Crown Prince’s desire to join the Abraham Accords and his willingness to invest $1 trillion in the U.S. economy. But a “clear path” to a Palestinian state? That’s where a line in the sand must be drawn. In the aftermath of the October 7th massacre, that’s an inconceivable idea. If I was Netanyahu, I would tell President Trump that he will establish a Palestinian state within Israel only if the United States will establish a MS-13 Gang state on Long Island, NY.
But I have an idea. If MBS has such a desire for a Palestinian state, why doesn’t he allow one within Saudi Arabia? After all, Israel is only about 1% the size of his country. The image below depicts the gargantuan disparity in size of the two countries.
Moreover, Saudi Arabia also shares common ethnicity and religious roots with the Palestinians. There have also been calls from Canada, France, and the United Kingdom for a Palestinian state. It’s easy to be generous with another country’s land!
In 2 Samuel 12:1-7, we find the passage of Nathan, the prophet, going to David with a parable of a rich man and a poor man. Nathan expounded on the story saying, “The rich man had exceedingly many flocks and herds. But the poor man had nothing, except one little ewe lamb … A traveler came to the rich man, who refused to take from his own flock and from his own herd to prepare one for the wayfaring man who had come to him; but he took the poor man’s lamb and prepared it for the man who had come to him.”
It seems to me that Saudi Arabia (and all of the other aforementioned countries) are like the “rich man” in this parable, and Israel is like the “poor man.” The “wayfaring traveler,” of course, is the Palestinians.
The truth is, not a single Arab country in the region wants to take in the Hamas savages from Gaza. These countries don’t want to sacrifice any of their “many flocks and herds” of land, but somehow they expect Israel to give up its only “little ewe lamb” of land to a people who continually chant “From the River to the Sea” and “Death to Israel.” The arrangement would be absolutely impossible from a national security standpoint. The global community seems to be tone deaf to the fact that the Palestinians want to annihilate Israel. They cannot co-exist side-by-side with Hamas in a post October 7th world. And let’s not forget, the Palestinians in Judea and Samaria (West Bank) largely supported the barbaric actions of Hamas on October 7th.
President Trump is a master negotiator, and I hope he will continue talks with MBS. But he must establish—upfront—the fact that rewarding the Palestinians with statehood after the October 7th massacre is a nonstarter. Perhaps MBS will see the many benefits to his country investing in the U.S. economy and joining the Abraham Accords—economically and otherwise.
