The fallacy of a new Middle East reality

Finally, after two years that began with a deadly massacre, moving on to daily rocket fire, followed by the dreaded Iranian attacks, which everyone feared, there seems to be an air of hope as news pundits express what they say could be the dawning of a new era in the Middle East.

But as they say – not so fast.

Because a brand-new reality in our region is highly dependent on the acceptance of Israel as a legitimate state which has the right to exist. What are the chances of that happening?

According to the Bronx Anti-War Coalition, an anti-Israel group, they claim that “True peace will only be achieved when the Zionist entity crumbles and ceases to exist.”

While the words are arranged differently, they have an eerie similarity to the “From the river to the sea” chant. Essentially, this group, as well as other anti-Israel groups, are in no way committed to a new tomorrow in the Middle East. Their vision is not one which champions co-existence, mutual respect and tolerance or the geographical presence of Jews in their midst.

To the contrary, the mantra continues to be that “Palestine’s liberation will be achieved through armed resistance.” As they cheer for our demise, the American Marxist pro-Palestine group continues to root for their heroes, the al-Qassam Brigade and Palestinian Islamic Jihad. Neither are ready to back down and link with others who see this as an opportune moment to forge a new future.

Joining their efforts is a group called Jewish Voice for Peace, which says that “Trump’s deal does nothing to address the root cause of injustice: Israel’s brutal military rule and oppression of Palestinians.”

Tragically, these are the same sentiments which were expressed by many members of the southern kibbutz communities, whose tireless efforts to bring about the type of justice they envisioned for oppressed Gazans. The problem was that they failed to see who was really their impediment to a good life.

Unlike their terrorist Hamas leaders, who viewed Gazan boys as disposable tools of war, Israel opened its doors, providing needed employment and other opportunities for their parents who wanted to work.

Vivian Silver, a member of Kibbutz Be’eri, is one such person who, right until the moment of her murder by Hamas terrorists, advocated for them.

Naively believing that injustice could be turned around through the good-hearted efforts of people who cared for these down and outers, her demise should be the loud wake-up call to other idealistic Jewish leftists who believe that they can make a difference.

According to their vision statement, Jewish Voice for Peace “envisions a world where all people – from the U.S. to Palestine – live in freedom, justice, equality and dignity.” If that is their hope, then why do they accuse the wrong nation of oppression? If Israel left the Gaza Strip in 2005, and allowed Gazans to work in Israel, how does that qualify as oppression? If anything, it represents less interference and more freedom!

And how can the defense of one’s citizens be categorized as a brutal military rule?  These are the ignorant voices of progressives and Woke, who define themselves as “anti-Zionist, multiracial, cross-class, an intergenerational movement of U.S. Jews into solidarity with the Palestinian freedom struggle, guided by a vision of justice, equality and dignity for all people.”

Although English is my native language, I must admit that I am greatly challenged to unravel that mouthful of non-sensical adjectives. But what is clear is that these are not Jews who live in Israel, forced to run in the middle of the night to their bomb shelters, because incoming rockets are attempting to kill them.

They are also not the friends or family of innocents who were slaughtered, burned alive, decapitated and tortured for no reason other than their ethnicity. Where is the justice and dignity in that?

Ignorantly, they make the claim that “The Trump deal also allows Israel to carry out a genocide without being held to account for its atrocities.” As usual, no specific facts to back up the bogus accusations. Just the libelous assertions, recycled from the enemies of Israel who, coincidentally, hold all Jews in contempt. Too bad that these Woke Jews don’t realize that they’re aligning with the same barbarians who murdered Vivian Silver.

But here’s an interesting question for the group. As those who support the BDS movement, which endeavors to break Israel economically, do they also, as fellow Jews, go so far as to call for the end of the Zionist entity? Because if they do, they will have no guaranteed refuge once the global intifada gets underway, threatening their existence as well.

So where will they hide? Who will protect them? Because it doesn’t matter how liberal, progressive or Woke you are. If your veins carry Jewish blood, you are part of the problem, deserving of the same annihilation that is planned for the Jewish nation. The problem is that they feel immune to such a threat, but they would do well to internalize it.

Sadly, there will always be a large faction of enemies whose hate and vitriol is directed at the Jewish homeland as well as those who share the same ethnicity. Of course, Christians will not be exempt from the persecution that lies ahead, because the end game is total subservience to radical Islam.

American Muslims for Palestine (AMP) claim that “history did not begin on October 7, 2023, nor did it end there – contending that Palestinian injustice preceded that date.  Well, the same can be said for Jewish persecution. The only difference is that Jews were never the initiators of oppression but rather those on the receiving end.

Of course, considering that the term Palestinians, as an invented ethnicity of Arabs, only came into being in the 1960s by PLO leader, Yasser Arafat, the only ones who can be blamed for their persecution are the jaded, immoral and unprincipled leaders who have continually exploited them. By turning their people into the convenient victims whose suffering was useful in casting Israel as the oppressor, they garnered world sympathy for their cause.

Not much has changed, and it is the reason that when it comes to declaring the dawning of a new day in the Middle East, no one should hold their breath, naively thinking that such a thing is possible!
