The 20 Congresspeople accusing Israel of genocide
Have you heard the news? Twenty Middle East experts, who were embedded with IDF troops, during the Gaza war, have accused Israel of genocide, based on what they personally witnessed with their own eyes.
Oh wait, that never happened. Those 20, who happened to be known anti-Israel congresspeople, never stepped foot in Gaza nor did they ever accompany the IDF during their military operations. In fact, it can be said that they know absolutely nothing about the two-year war, following the bloody and barbaric October 7 massacre which was executed in a surprise attack on Israeli soil.
But none of that matters. Because what’s important to them, and their constituents, is to come out publicly and condemn Israel, with or without facts to back it up. Who needs facts when so many already believe the worst about the Jewish homeland?
Following the lead of Michigan Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, her faithful and devoted fellow Israel bashers wasted no time “submitting a resolution for the US to officially recognize that Israeli military operations in Gaza since October 2023 constituted a genocide against Palestinians.”
If passed, it would obligate the U.S. to stop all shipments of military equipment to Israel since their position would be that the Jewish state is truly committing a genocide. To continue to supply weapons would essentially make them an accessory to such an atrocity.
The bill also seeks to fund UNRWA, the U.N.’s supposed Palestinian relief agency, which lost its backing after evidence supported allegations of its workers having participated in the October 7th massacre. But that didn’t stop these 20 who also want the U.S. to “cooperate with the International Criminal Court prosecutor’s office investigations and lift all sanctions it has leveled against ICC personnel.”
In short, the bad guys would, once again, become the good guys while Israel would maintain its reputation for perpetrating a genocide. It really ties up every loose end.
So, what were the crimes enumerated in the proposed legislation? Claims include “civilians and civilian objects being targeted in Gaza on a wide scale and humanitarian aid being denied as a means to starve the populace.”
Omitted from the bill was documented proof that “Hamas has been confiscating aid as a matter of policy,” by either price gauging, furnishing the aid to the families of terrorists or demanding that Gazans pay protection money to them.
Of course, no evidence was provided for masses of starving Gazans – just the accusation. The claim of civilian objects being targeted is an absurd contention when it comes to war, because anything which is deemed to be a threat will certainly be targeted.
When it comes to the assertion that civilians were targeted, that might be true if they were known terrorists, but it would be completely false if those civilians were not military operatives. To the contrary, great pains were taken to prevent casualties, often to the greater risk of Israeli soldiers whose surgical strikes increased their own likelihood of injury or death.
After doing his own investigation into the Gaza War, John Spencer, a former U.S. Army major stated that “Israel had taken more precautionary measures to prevent civilian casualties in war than any military in history.”
But none of that comes to play with the 20 congresspeople who maintain the vicious libel that Israel purposely set out to kill Gazans.
So, who are these congresspeople? They include Becca Balint (VT), André Carson (IN), Greg Casar (TX), Maxine Dexter (OR), Maxwell Alejandro Frost (FL), Jesús G. “Chuy” García (IL), Al Green (TX), Pramila Jayapal (WA), Henry “Hank” Johnson, Jr. (GA), Ro Khanna (CA), Summer Lee (PA), Jim McGovern (MA), Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY), Ilhan Omar (MN), Mark Pocan (WI), Ayanna Pressley (MA), Delia C. Ramirez (IL), Lateefah Simon (CA), Nydia Velázquez (NY), and Bonnie Watson Coleman (NJ).
While many of these names come as no surprise, at least two stand out, and they are Ro Khanna and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Khanna, frequently appearing on Fox News, has often endeavored to represent himself as a moderate in his party, trying to be the voice of reason and compromise, but, in this case, he has joined forces with the more extreme segment of Democrats whose trademark bears a deep contempt for Israel.
AOC, known for her extreme views, most recently in her endorsement of Marxist mayoral candidate, Zohran Mamdani who ended up winning the New York election, has, on a few occasions, tried to avoid appearing to be too anti-Israel. In July, for example, she was accused by the far left of not having gone far enough against Israel.
When a defense appropriations amendment had been introduced by Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, to defund Israel for its Iron Dome missile defense system, AOC ended up not supporting the legislation. This came as an unexpected surprise. Wanting to expand her power base and popularity, she might have considered that such a move was to her future political advantage.
But this time, she joined her extreme colleagues who don’t seem to be too worried about their own aspirations as they strongly come out against Israel. Which leads many to believe that such a blatant stand is seen as a plus when it comes to retaining their power and maintaining their anti-Israel reputation before a constituency which apparently demands that of them.
The double knock-out punch of punishing Israel while also restoring dubious agencies and the international court findings, is a feat these highly biased members of congress seek to achieve. It’s their “two for the price of one” attempt at injuring the Jewish state.
But they are not alone in their very transparent attempts to bloody up Israel in the court of public opinion. Supporting them are many human rights organizations as well as prominent Palestinian organizations and foundations.
Of course, the proposed legislation will first have to undergo a committee review, rigorous debate and a vote by the full chamber before being approved and signed by the President.
With the likelihood of zero success, the purpose of this bill is nothing more than a performance art exercise, similar to burning someone in effigy. Its effect has no value!
