No one voted for Sara – So why is she deciding anything?

It was back in March, 2024 that Eylon Levy, then spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office was forced out of his position, allegedly over an X post he wrote, concerning former British Prime Minister David Cameron.
Levy, one of the most articulate and talented speakers to ever hold the position, himself, doubted that he lost his job over the post, saying, “I find it difficult to believe that my suspension was really about the tweet, because I tweeted government policy and facts.”
It wasn’t until after the fact that reports began to surface about Sara Netanyahu, and the role she played in his exit, culminating in her immense criticism of the fact that Levy had previously taken part in demonstrations relating to judicial overhaul.
Despite his never having met Sara, it became widely known that she held Levy’s act of governmental defiance against him. But whether or not people believed those rumors, a new episode has emerged which now makes the Levy incident more credible.
Omer Dostri, Netanyahu’s current spokesperson will now be “stepping down from his position, effective immediately.” The 38-year-old, who holds a PhD in political studies and is said to be a military strategist and national security expert, held the position for less than a year, but according to a Jerusalem Post article, has quit over much discord with Sara.
Stating that there were “several confrontations with the prime minister’s wife,” the conclusion is that the two were unable to work together. Consequently, he will now be replaced by a member of Bibi’s Likud party. Similar to his predecessor, Dostri was, likewise, accused of having been too independent, speaking on his own behalf, thereby creating headlines. He was also reprimanded for having “published confidential details that are prohibited by censorship.”
Yet, if that’s true, and Dostri simply failed to adequately do his job, how does Sara come into play as rumors suggest that his ouster was the result of a lack of harmony between the two?
This is not the first time that Sara Netanyahu’s name has been dropped when it comes to inappropriate interference, because in December, 2024, a probe of the prime minister’s wife had been ordered for the alleged harassment of a key witness in her husband’s trial. Asserting that Sara “sought to intimidate a witness and interfere in the corruption case against her husband, an investigation was ordered by both the attorney general and the chief prosecutor of the case.”
It was actually broadcasted last December on the Israeli evening program, “Uvda” (“Fact”) that Sara had “ordered Hanni Bleiweiss, her husband’s late aide, to orchestrate protests and an online campaign against the key witness in one of the prime minister’s corruption cases.”
An additional story became public when a high-ranking IDF official claimed that he failed to obtain the position of IDF military secretary after having undergone what appears to have been an unsuccessful interview with Sara. The story got traction during a defamation suit brought by a former confidant of the prime minister who claimed that there had been a “15-page secret agreement between Netanyahu and his wife in 1999, granting her certain decision-making powers in the defense establishment as well as veto power over appointments and the right to be included in security deliberations.”
If those allegations are true, it would explain how Sara’s name keeps popping up as it relates to decisions that should absolutely not be made by someone who was never elected to any office by the Israeli public. Already linked to charges of abuse by former employees, including housekeepers and chefs, who worked for the couple at their residence, Sara has been accused of calling those who worked for her, “stupid,” screaming at them, humiliating them and even throwing things at them.
Sara Netanyahu does not enjoy the admiration of the Israeli public, as a whole, since many see her as using her position to live a lavish lifestyle while also dictating her desires when it comes to handing out government roles or insinuating her preferred policy – all things which should not be the decision of the spouse of an elected official.
All this is nothing new, because back in 2019, billionaire Sheldon Adelson and his wife Miriam, generous contributors to Israel, themselves, realized that Sara had major issues, reflected in their statement that “she is absolutely crazy, obsessed with her photos and how she looks.” Apparently, her attempt to impress the couple by touting her achievements as Bibi’s wife and a respected psychologist, seemed to have had the opposite effect.
It was Miriam’s recollection of an episode, during which time the couple was present, when Sara’s temper got so out-of-control, that the prime minister requested that the Adelsons leave. Referring to the hatred felt by Sara towards Naftali Bennett who, at the time, had not yet become prime minister, Miriam was shocked to see the influence Sara wielded when advising her husband not to accept him into a prospective government coalition. Already expressed out loud, Miriam felt that Sara’s undue influence was putting the Jewish state at risk since, in Adelson’s estimation, Bennett would have been an asset for the government.
This wasn’t the only observation made by the astute billionaire’s wife who had been asked by Sara to contribute money to a particular NGO she supported. The late Sheldon Adelson, then owner of Israel Hayom newspaper had also been asked by Sara to fire the paper’s former editor and replace him with someone who was more trusted by the Netanyahu family.
Of course, the stories of Sara requesting expensive gifts are reported far and wide. She even dropped a strong hint to Miriam Adelson who personally was shown a pricey necklace Sara received from billionaire Israeli businessman Arnon Milchan, as well as a Rolex watch purchased for her as a gift by yet another individual.
It’s no wonder that Sara’s tarnished reputation has become a subject of controversy, making her the most disliked spouse in Israel’s history. Her heavy-handed involvement into the everyday decisions of the Israeli government is both inappropriate and unwarranted since her voice and preferences should have no more weight than that of the average Israeli citizen.
Sara Netanyahu has overstepped her bounds, enabled by her husband whose popularity is not enhanced by granting her the influence which no one has voted to give her. If she wants it, she needs to run for office, but my guess is that she won’t be winning the job anytime soon.
