Trump warns Hamas will be 'blown away' if terror group doesn't give up weapons in next few weeks
Israeli strikes kill 11 in Gaza, including three journalists traveling with Egyptian reconstruction committee
U.S. President Donald Trump, while speaking at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos on Wednesday, warned that Hamas would be “blown away very quickly” if the terror group does not disarm in the next few weeks.
President Trump began his comments on Hamas by saying, “I think we have peace in the Middle East,” before adding that “there are some situations like Hamas.”
The U.S. president again claimed that “Hamas has agreed to give up their weapons.” This statement came despite repeated statements from Hamas leaders that the terror group would never give up its weapons, except to hand them over to the military of a Palestinian state.
Trump also appeared to acknowledge the difficulty in getting the terror group to disarm, saying, “Now, you know, they were born with a weapon in their hand, so it's not easy to do.”

There are some little situations like Hamas... we're going to know over the next 2 or 3 days, certainly over the next 3 weeks, whether or not they're going to [disarm]. “They've got to do it,” President Trump continued. “And we're going to know over the next two or three days, certainly over the next three weeks, whether or not they're going to do it.”
He reiterated his previous claims that there would be harsh consequences for the group if they failed to disarm.
“If they don't do it, they're going to have to, they’ll be blown away very quickly,” Trump threatened. “They'll be blown away.”
President Trump also again claimed to have many nations wanting to participate in the Gaza International Stabilization Force (ISF), saying those nations “want to come in and take out Hamas.”
However, very few countries have publicly committed to sending troops to the ISF, with several nations that were invited declining to do so. Some, such as Jordan, have specifically stated that the ISF’s role in disarming Hamas is untenable for their countries.
Recent reports in Israeli media have claimed that the ISF will have a more limited mandate than originally planned, focusing more on border security and humanitarian aid, due to a lack of interest by Muslim partner nations in confronting Hamas directly.
In the meantime, the situation in the Gaza Strip remains fluid, with reports of several IDF strikes in the enclave on Wednesday.
Eleven people were killed, including five claimed to be journalists, during Israeli strikes in Gaza on Wednesday, according to Gazan reports.
In one incident, the IDF conducted an airstrike on a vehicle traveling in a convoy of the Egyptian Committee for the Reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, killing five of its workers.
Palestinian health officials said the Israeli airstrike killed three Palestinian journalists who were traveling in a vehicle on assignment to film a camp for displaced people in central Gaza.
The IDF said the strike was carried out after it spotted "several suspects who operated a drone affiliated with Hamas in the central Gaza Strip, in a manner that posed a threat to their safety.”
The IDF statement said that “The strike was conducted in accordance with the required chain of command approvals,” while also stating that “the details of the incident are under examination.”
Egypt later confirmed that the five people working for its committee had used a drone, but only to film the damage to a compound, not to gather intelligence on Israeli troops.
The Egyptian government strongly protested the incident to Israel and demanded clarifications. On Thursday, Israeli media reported that Egypt had conveyed the message that the committee would continue working in Gaza, despite the Israeli strike.
The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate said in a statement that the journalists were killed "while carrying out a humanitarian journalistic mission to film and document the suffering of civilians in displacement camps.”
One other person was killed while crossing the Yellow Line towards Israeli troops, the IDF said. The military did not comment on the other incidents.
