Singer-songwriter Yehuda Poliker performed this Wednesday evening for the first time in Thessaloniki, before an audience of about 1,000 people, marking 40 years since the release of his first solo album "Eyes of Mine." The event took place 80 years after his father and family were deported from the city to the Auschwitz extermination camp.

During the concert, Poliker dedicated the performance of the song “Wait for Me, Thessaloniki” to his late father, Jako. “I can’t believe it’s been 40 years since the album ‘Eyes of Mine,'" Poliker said. “I’m very moved to mark this date on the soil of Thessaloniki, the place from which my parents were deported to the camps 80 years ago. I hope that in spirit they are watching me this evening, seeing the circle close, and are proud of me.”

“We will continue to perform all over the world despite the difficulties and despite the war,” Poliker added on stage.

Next month, Poliker will celebrate his 75th birthday. On Jan. 7 he will hold another concert marking 40 years since the album’s release, this time at Heichal HaTarbut in Tel Aviv.
