Gaza Humanitarian Foundation ceases aid mission in Gaza, says US headquarters will take over aid distribution

Hamas is reportedly looting aid on large scale again

The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) announced the completion of its aid delivery mission in the Gaza Strip on Monday, saying it had handed out more than 187 million free meals to civilians since starting operations in February 2025.

“From the outset, GHF’s goal was to meet an urgent need, prove that a new approach could succeed where others had failed, and ultimately hand off that success to the broader international community,” said GHF Executive Director John Acree.

According to him, the creation of the U.S.-led ceasefire monitoring headquarters in southern Israel, called the “Civil-Military Coordination Center (CMCC),” marked this moment.

“GHF has been in talks with CMCC and international organizations now for weeks about the way forward and it’s clear they will be adopting and expanding the model GHF piloted. As a result, we are winding down our operations as we have succeeded in our mission of showing there’s a better way to deliver aid to Gazans,” he said.

The foundation was created with the goal of providing the civilians of Gaza with aid while preventing the aid from falling into Hamas’ hands.

However, Channel 12 cited testimony from an active-service IDF soldier, who said Hamas has once again been looting aid on a large scale since the ceasefire began. “Trucks arrive, load the pallets near Zikim, enter three to four kilometers along the coast, and there, an armed Hamas member boards each truck. This happens right in front of the UN’s eyes,” the soldier said.

GHF stated that “not a single GHF aid truck was looted” during its four-and-a-half months of operations.

The foundation was targeted by a large-scale Hamas propaganda mechanism aiming to smear its distribution centers as “death traps” by spreading often exaggerated or outright false reports of mass shootings of civilians by the IDF, which were often echoed by international media.

After the start of the ceasefire, the future of GHF appeared uncertain, as the foundation claimed to continue operations while reports indicated that President Trump’s Gaza Peace Plan did not include it.

On Oct. 14, Acree denied reports that its aid distribution sites had already been abandoned. The announcement of GHF’s closure was the first statement by the foundation since then.

“At a critical juncture, we are proud to have been the only aid operation that reliably and safely provided free meals directly to Palestinian people in Gaza, at scale and without diversion. From our very first day of operations, our mission was singular: feed civilians in desperate need,” Acree stated.

“Led by an American team of humanitarian professionals, former U.S. service members, and courageous local Gazan workers – with critical support from partners like Samaritan’s Purse – GHF operated transparently, effectively, and without interference.”

State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott thanked the GHF for its mission.

“GHF has shared valuable lessons learned with us and our partners,” said Pigott.

“GHF’s model, in which Hamas could no longer loot and profit from stealing aid, played a huge role in getting Hamas to the table and achieving a ceasefire. We thank them for all that they provided to Gazans.”
