Yair Lapid’s Yesh Atid party announces first-ever primary elections
Yesh Atid party head Yair Lapid announced on Monday that his party would hold its first primary elections.
“We have the honor to inform you that the annual conference of Yesh Atid will take place during the month of December. In accordance with the decision of the party leadership, a vote to appoint the party president will take place on this occasion,” the official statement read.
Current Knesset Member and former vice director of the Mossad, Ram Ben Barak announced his intention to run against Lapid, but his chances for success are believed to be slim.
Yesh Atid has received repeated criticism in the past for its lack of intra-party democracy. Until now, its candidate list was nominated by its leader and founder, Lapid.
