US charges 17 Iranians in ‘massive cyber theft campaign’ targeting universities
Seventeen Iranian nationals have been charged with carrying out a massive cyber theft campaign targetting universities, companies and government agencies, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said on Tuesday.
According to the indictment, the Iranian nationals worked for the Mabna Institute and conducted cyber theft on behalf of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and other Iranian entities.
The network is accused of breaching roughly 8,000 accounts belonging to academics at 144 universities in the United States and 178 universities in other countries.
