Damascus–Druze talks lead to prisoner swap
U.S.-brokered negotiations between the Syrian regime and Druze leadership have led to a prisoner exchange.
"Today we facilitated the release of 86 detainees," confirmed ICRC Syria head Stephen Sakalian. The exchange involved 61 Druze held by Damascus and 25 government personnel held by the Druze province of Sweda’s national guard.
The negotiations followed sectarian clashes that prompted Israeli intervention last year.
