US Army Chief steps down at Defense Secretary’s request

U.S. Army Chief of Staff Gen. Randy George is stepping down after reportedly being asked to resign by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, according to CBS News and a Pentagon statement released overnight.

The Pentagon announced that Vice Chief of Staff Gen. Christopher LaNeve will serve as acting head of the Army. LaNeve, who previously served as Hegseth’s military secretary, was described by Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell as a seasoned combat commander with decades of operational experience and the full confidence of the defense secretary.
