Turkey builds new mosques in Gaza, one named after al-Qaeda co-founder

Turkey’s Türkiye Diyanet Foundation (TDV) has opened three mosques in the northern Gaza Strip ahead of Ramadan, Turkish outlet TRT reported. The mosques were inaugurated in Jabalia, Gaza City’s Sabra neighborhood, and Sheikh Radwan, with Turkish and Palestinian flags displayed.

One mosque shown in the coverage was identified as the “Abdullah Azzam Mosque,” named after the al-Qaeda co-founder.

The report follows earlier discussions in Washington about possible Turkish involvement in a future international framework for Gaza. Israeli officials have maintained firm opposition to any Turkish role on the ground, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly reiterating that Turkey would not participate in Gaza’s post-war arrangements.
