Trump pauses Hormuz shipping operation to test Iran deal prospects

U.S. President Donald Trump announced a temporary suspension of a naval operation aimed at securing shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, citing progress in negotiations with Iran.

In a statement overnight, Trump said the pause in “Project Liberty” is intended to allow time to assess whether a broader agreement with Tehran can be reached.
