Tel Aviv prayer service disturbed by protesters and city authorities

A prayer service in Tel Aviv’s Dizengoff Square was disturbed by protesters and municipal workers after the worshippers defied city laws by erecting a partition to divide men and women during the service, according to Israeli media reports.

Municipal workers dismantled the partitions, while one man was filmed intentionally ramming into Rabbi Leo Dee, who was leading the prayers. Soon after, violent clashes erupted between the worshippers and protesters.

National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir condemned the clashes, saying, “I instructed the police to act diligently against those rioters just as they arrested those who spat at [Christian] pilgrims.”

Dee has become a public persona in Israel, known for his repeated calls for unity. His wife and two of his daughters were murdered in a terrorist attack earlier this year.

On Yom Kippur, protesters and congregants clashed at multiple prayer services in Tel Aviv after the city banned partitions during public prayers.
