Spanish prime minister appoints minister who praised Hamas, denied Oct. 7 atrocities
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez appointed Sira Rego, a politician of Palestinian descent, to lead the nation's Ministry of Youth and Children.
Rego previously made statements justifying Hamas' brutality against Israel, accusing Israel of “cold-blooded murder.”
She also denied that Hamas terrorists engaged in horrific acts of violence, including the rape of women, targeted killing of civilians, and the violation of dead bodies.
On Saturday, Oct. 7, Reno posted a message to social media stating, “Palestine has the right to resist after decades of occupation, apartheid, and displacement. In the face of those advocating collective punishment through the bombardment of Gaza, it is crucial to defend international law. The only solution is ending the occupation.”
Three days later, she met with the Palestinian ambassador in Spain, declaring, "Peace can only come with the end of the Israeli occupation."
Rego is a member of the left-wing political party “Unidas Podemos” (United We Can) and has been part of the European Parliament since 2019.
