Sánchez speaks with Mideast leaders, says ‘Spain demands immediate end to war’
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez called for an immediate end to the war, warning of severe global consequences after announcing that he spoke with his counterparts in Egypt, Jordan and Qatar.
In a post on X late Monday, Sánchez tagged Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Jordan’s King Abdullah II, and Qatar’s Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, emphasizing: “We all desire a prosperous and peaceful Middle East.” He added that “an escalation of the conflict would mean a devastating global setback.”
Sánchez reiterated the country’s position, saying: “Spain demands the immediate end to this war.” His remarks follow the Spanish government’s decision to close its airspace to U.S. aircraft involved in operations in Iran last week. In March, Sánchez referred to the military campaign of Israel and the United States as “unjust and illegal.”
