Report: Iran nearing deal to purchase hypersonic cruise missiles from China
Iran is reportedly nearing a deal to obtain hypersonic anti-ship missiles from China, a development that could threaten U.S. naval forces in the region, Reuters reported today.
The deal to acquire CM‑302 missiles is close to being finalized, but a delivery date has not yet been agreed upon. The hypersonic missiles have a range of 290 km and can bypass ship defenses by flying low and fast.
The deployment of the missiles would significantly enhance Iran’s strike capabilities and pose a threat to U.S. naval forces in the region, two weapons experts said.
According to Financial Times, Israeli intelligence has assessed that even with the arrival of the USS Gerald R. Ford, the U.S. military could sustain only a four to five-day intense aerial assault against Iran, or up to a week of lower-intensity strikes.
