Protests held outside Israeli ministers’ homes ahead of Knesset Oct. 7 inquiry vote
The government-backed bill to establish a commission of inquiry into the October 7 attacks is set to be brought on Wednesday for a preliminary Knesset vote.
Ahead of the debate, members of the “October Council” — families of victims and hostages — demonstrated outside the homes of several ministers, protesting the proposal. They argue that the bill would allow the coalition to effectively control the composition of the commission, undermining its independence and credibility.
Earlier this week, the Ministerial Committee for Legislation approved advancing the bill. Under the proposal, the commission would have full investigative powers and aim for “broad public consensus,” but if agreements are not reached, appointments could ultimately be made solely by the coalition, including the committee chair.
