‘Project Freedom Plus’: Sen. Lindsey Graham calls for tougher Iran approach as talks stall
U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham called for “Project Freedom Plus” after President Donald Trump rejected Iran’s response to the latest U.S. proposal as “totally unacceptable,” signaling growing frustration among Trump allies over efforts to reach a diplomatic solution with Tehran.
“Project Freedom Plus sounds pretty good right about now,” Graham wrote on social media in response to Trump’s comments on Sunday.
Graham said he appreciated Trump’s “earnest efforts to seek a diplomatic solution to change the behavior of the Iranian terrorist regime,” but cited Iran’s maritime aggression, attacks on regional U.S. allies and its response to Washington’s latest proposal as grounds for a shift in approach, saying it was time to “consider changing course.”
