Prime Minister’s Office demands coalition MKs attend IDF draft law deliberations
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office is urging coalition lawmakers to actively attend Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee discussions on the military draft exemption bill, seeking to shore up support for the legislation amid pressure from ultra-Orthodox parties.
Officials fear that lawmakers’ absences from the hearings could undermine backing for the bill and complicate its approval in the Knesset plenum. Coalition members were again absent from committee discussions on Monday, with many choosing to stay away.
According to Kan News, Shas chairman Aryeh Deri has demanded that the coalition fully back the bill in Knesset deliberations. Ultra-Orthodox lawmakers have warned they will support dissolving the Knesset if the pace of discussions is not increased, threatening elections if their demands are not met.
