PM Netanyahu says new Negev Airport will drive travel and growth

Israel is moving forward with plans to establish its first supplementary international airport in the Negev desert following government approval earlier this week. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the project as key to both meeting growing demand and advancing development in southern Israel.

Speaking from the future site, alongside Transportation Minister Miri Regev and Deputy Minister Almog Cohen on Thursday, Netanyahu said the additional airport is needed, adding: “The State of Israel is a magnet. It has a world-class economy, and it will continue to grow and grow and grow in the high-tech era,” he said.

At a Cabinet meeting earlier this week, Netanyahu said the new facility would complement the nation's largest hub at Ben Gurion Airport, serving as “a tremendous catalyst for the development of the Negev — for employment, for accessibility, for tourism — alongside complementary infrastructure of roads and trains.”
