Pentagon presents President Trump with strike options as U.S. urges citizens to leave Iran
The Pentagon has presented President Donald Trump with a wider array of attack options against Iran than previously disclosed, including targets linked to the nuclear program and ballistic missile facilities, The New York Times reported overnight.
Trump is expected to be briefed on the options today as he weighs diplomacy, including talks on a new nuclear deal, alongside possible military action.
The United States also issued an urgent travel warning overnight calling on Americans to leave Iran immediately, citing a significant risk of questioning or arrest amid escalating protests.
The State Department advised considering departure via land borders and said dual nationals must leave using Iranian passports: “U.S. nationals are at significant risk of questioning, arrest, and detention in Iran. Showing a U.S. passport or demonstrating connections to the United States can be reason enough for Iranian authorities to detain someone.”
Meanwhile, The Wall Street Journal reported that Vice President J.D. Vance and other senior officials are urging Trump to pursue diplomacy before using force. Trump is reportedly leaning toward approving military strikes but has not yet made a final decision.
