NYT: Iran’s new supreme leader Mojtaba Khamenei wounded on first day of war

Mojtaba Khamenei, Iran’s newly appointed supreme leader, was injured in the leg on the first day of the war, according to a report by The New York Times.

The report said Khamenei has not appeared in public nor issued a written statement since assuming the position. Three Iranian officials told the newspaper that the absence is due not only to security concerns, but also to injuries he sustained during the early days of the conflict.

Israeli defense officials had also previously assessed that Mojtaba Khamenei was wounded in the leg, even before he was selected as Iran’s supreme leader. The report did not specify the severity of the injury.
