Northern Israel leaders slam ceasefire as Trump praises agreement

As U.S. President Donald Trump touts the Israel-Hezbollah ceasefire, regional leaders in Israel express outrage, calling it a “betrayal” of northern residents.

“May have been a historic day for Lebanon. Good things are happening!” Trump posted on Truth Social Thursday night in the U.S., early Friday in Israel. “It has been my Honor to solve 9 Wars across the World, and this will be my 10th, so let's, GET IT DONE!” he said in a post earlier on Thursday.

In contrast, officials in Israel’s north sharply criticized the agreement. Moshe Davidovich, head of the Mate Asher Regional Council, said in a statement: “A ceasefire that does not include lethal enforcement against Hezbollah for every violation and a buffer zone free of terror up to the Litani River is not a political achievement; it is a sentence to wait for the next massacre.”

David Azoulay, mayor of the northern city of Metula and member of the Yisrael Beiteinu party, echoed the criticism. “Citizens of the north feel betrayed once again,” he said, adding that the announcement coming from the U.S. president rather than Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reflects a “disconnect” from northern Israelis and the reality they face.
