Netanyahu orders expansion of security zone in Lebanon, signals shift in strategy
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he has instructed the expansion of the existing security zone in northern Israel, stressing determination to “fundamentally change the situation in the north.”
The statement came after a security assessment with the defense minister and IDF chief at Northern Command, ahead of a possible expansion of ground operations in Lebanon.
The IDF indicated it may abandon fixed positions in the current buffer zone, which have become targets, in favor of a more flexible strategy based on mobility, operational freedom, and removing immediate threats.
