Lebanese parliament speaker rejects Israel deal: 'It will not pass or be implemented'

Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, a key Hezbollah ally, rejected the proposed framework agreement with Israel, calling it “ten times worse” than the 1983 Israel-Lebanon agreement.

In an interview with the Hezbollah-affiliated newspaper Al-Akhbar, Berri warned that the deal could trigger internal conflict in Lebanon and said the country must avoid steps that could lead to civil strife and chaos.

Berri insisted that “this agreement will neither pass nor be implemented,” arguing that Lebanon’s only path to securing a full Israeli withdrawal lies through the ongoing U.S.-Iran negotiations. He added that separating the Lebanese issue from that track or entering direct negotiations with Israel under what he described as American-Israeli terms would only prolong Israel’s presence and allow it to create new facts on the ground without meaningful guarantees for Lebanon.
