Knesset opens debate on Oct. 7 National Inquiry Committee amid opposition boycott and protests
Discussions on the National Inquiry Committee have begun in the Knesset, amid a boycott by opposition members and protest from families of the “October Council” outside the chamber. Meanwhile, the conclusions of the ministerial committee defining the mandate have not yet been presented. Opposition leader Yair Lapid remarks: “The people sitting in the room next to us are not the investigators—they are the investigated.”
Simcha Rothman, chair of the Constitution, Law and Justice Committee, noted the complexity of differing views among bereaved families and emphasized the investigation’s importance. “There is no side made entirely of bereaved families and no side completely without them. Investigating the October 7 massacre is important not only for the bereaved families but for all of Israel: soldiers, civilians, and anyone seeking to prevent the next disaster,” he stated.
