Israel's FM Sa'ar hosts South American leaders in Washington meeting, discusses deepening partnership
Israel's Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar hosted a diplomatic meeting with leaders from Latin America, including three foreign ministers, and senior U.S. officials, including the Deputy Secretary of State, in Washington D.C. overnight, his office said.
“The meeting took place against the backdrop of the launch of a joint Israel–U.S. working group for a strategic dialogue on Latin American affairs," according to the statement, as Sa'ar has designated this year as "a focus year on Latin America for Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs."
“An extraordinary evening in Washington with our friends from the United States and Latin America. The close friendship between Israel and the U.S., Argentina, Paraguay and Ecuador has strengthened greatly over the past year and I am confident it will continue to strengthen. There is a great spirit of change in Latin America and the camp of freedom is growing stronger,” said Sa'ar.
Participants discussed "the various opportunities for partnership between the countries and cooperation in areas such as the economy and innovation" as well as "the positive, pro-Western shift occurring in countries across the continent and how to maximize benefits for all nations."
Attendees included Argentina’s Foreign Minister Pablo Cerna, Paraguay’s Foreign Minister Rubén Ramírez Lezcano, and Ecuador’s Foreign Minister Gabriela Somerfeld, as well as U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau, Presidential Advisor Paula White, Members of Congress Maria Salazar and Mario Diaz-Balart, AIPAC CEO Elliott Brandt and Eric Fingerhut, Chair of the Jewish Federations of North America.
