Israeli contestant takes first place in International Bible Quiz

The International Bible Quiz for Jewish youth on Wednesday saw Israeli contestant Hodaya Cohen take first place. Out of hundreds of candidates with command of the Tanach, sixteen finalists representing seven countries competed.

Speaking at the ceremony in Jerusalem, Education Minister Yoav Kisch said the quiz “expresses the depth of the State of Israel’s connection to its origins and identity,” describing the Tanach as “the moral and cultural foundation of the Jewish people.”

“It is precisely during this challenging time that we understand that we are not just studying the Tanach, but continuing to write its chapters," Kisch said.

The annual event held on Israel’s Independence Day is organized by the Education Ministry, together with the Jewish Agency and the Israel National Fund.
