Israel stands still as country remembers its fallen with 2-minute memorial siren

The entire country came to a standstill for two minutes on 11 a.m., as a siren marked Israel's commemoration of the fallen soldiers and victims of terror on Memorial Day.

Memorial events across the country began after the siren, including the state ceremony at the Mount Herzl Military Cemetery in Jerusalem and smaller events at schools, townhalls, neighborhoods, workplaces and others.

Since Memorial Day 2025, 174 members of Israel’s security forces lost their lives during their service, according to the Defense Ministry. 54 others died as a result of injuries sustained earlier during their service.

The Jewish community in the land of Israel began counting its fallen fighters and soldiers in 1860. Since then, 25,648 fighters were killed while fighting for a Jewish state.
