Israel nominates first ambassador to Somaliland
After becoming the first country to recognize the state of Somaliland in December 2025, Israel has appointed its first ambassador to the East African country, Israeli media reported.
Michael Lotem, who currently serves as a non-resident economic ambassador to African nations, was appointed as a non-resident ambassador to Somaliland. He formerly served as ambassador to Kenya, Azerbaijan, and Kazakhstan.
Somaliland appointed Dr. Mohamed Haji as its first ambassador to Israel in February.
