Israel, Greece and Cyprus plan joint 2,500-troop rapid response force
Israel, Greece, and Cyprus are reportedly considering the creation of a joint rapid-response military force of about 2,500 troops to operate in the eastern Mediterranean.
According to Greece’s TA NEA news site, the force would include naval, air, and ground units and has been discussed by senior military officials. The initiative is described as providing Israel with added strategic depth amid Turkey’s regional ambitions. Under the reported plan, Israel and Greece would each contribute around 1,000 troops, Cyprus 500, along with one fighter squadron each from the Israeli and Greek air forces, and deployments across Greece, Cyprus, Israel, and Greek islands such as Rhodes and Karpathos.
