Israel braces for Lebanese demand to withdraw from positions in the south
Israel is preparing for an expected announcement by the Lebanese Army in the coming days declaring southern Lebanon free of Hezbollah infrastructure south of the Litani River, and demanding that Israel withdraw from its five positions inside Lebanon. The move comes ahead of the end-of-month deadline set by the Lebanese government for Hezbollah’s disarmament in the south.
At the same time, Israeli officials say Hezbollah is already rebuilding its network, recruiting operatives and trying to reestablish its presence in southern Lebanon.
Overnight, Israeli Air Force jets struck a Hezbollah Radwan Force training compound north of the Litani, as well as military infrastructure and a launch site — signaling that Israel does not consider the Hezbollah threat removed.
