Israel approves use of electronic ankle monitors against young suspects of settler violence in Judea and Samaria
For the first time, the Israeli government has authorized the use of electronic ankle monitors on Hilltop Youth in Judea and Samaria amid rising incidents of settler violence toward Palestinians.
The Commanding Officer of the IDF Central Command, Maj.-Gen. Avi Bluth, signed the order on Monday, cooperating across ranks with political leadership, the police, the Shin Bet, the Prison Service, and legal advisors, with the aim to combat nationalist crime.
The order, which allows the use of electronic ankle monitors against nationalist crime, was issued as a temporary measure and signed by the commanding officer. It is an attempt to use a new tool to enforce order in Judea and Samaria and uphold restriction orders imposed by MG Bluth on the Hilltop Youth, who have been identified by security officials as lawbreakers and key instigators.
The organization Honenu reported that today a minor was taken from his home in Samaria by Shin Bet and the police, who brought him to a police station where an electronic ankle monitor was placed on his leg.
