Iran executes young man accused of spying for Israel

Iran executed a man convicted of spying for Israeli intelligence and the Israeli military, Iranian state media reported on Saturday.

According to state television, the man, identified as 27-year-old Aqil Keshavarz, was accused of maintaining “close intelligence cooperation” with the Mossad and photographing Iranian military and security sites. He was reportedly an architecture student.

Iran has executed at least 11 people on espionage charges since the 12-day conflict with Israel in June, during which nearly 1,100 people were killed in Iran. Iranian missile fire during the conflict killed 28 people in Israel. Iranian espionage trials are typically held behind closed doors, often without full access to evidence for defendants.
