IDF seals 16-km long Gaza tunnel used to hold body of kidnapped IDF soldier for 11 years
IDF soldiers have completed the sealing of the underground tunnel in the Gaza Strip, where the body of Lt. Hadar Goldin was held for eleven years, the military announced Monday evening.
Goldin was killed in battle in the Gaza Strip by Hamas terrorists and abducted on August 1st, 2014, during Operation Protective Edge. His body was returned for burial in Israel as part of a hostage deal in November 2025.
Over the past three months, engineering troops "worked to seal the tunnel, which stretches for more than 16 kilometers (about 10 miles). The operation used more than 30,000 cubic meters of concrete, and has now been completed," the IDF said.
The complex served as a command-and-control center for senior Hamas leaders and included some 80 living quarters. It was located near the Philadelphi Corridor and ran beneath a residential neighborhood, mosques, kindergartens, clinics, a school, and a UNRWA clinic.
