IDF Iron Dome soldier charged with spying for Iran in exchange for $1,000 in crypto
An IDF soldier serving in the Iron Dome air defense system was charged with spying for the Iranian regime, the police and the domestic intelligence service Shin Bet announced. However, the indictment indicates this took place several months ago, and not during the current war.
The reservist, 26-year-old Raz Cohen from Jerusalem, was found to have passed sensitive information about the Iron Dome system and other classified information to Iranian intelligence agents over several months.
In exchange for transmitting information about military sites and the names of Israeli security officials, Cohen received about 1,000$ in cryptocurrency.
Cohen was recently arrested and has been charged with assisting the enemy during a war, transmitting information to the enemy with the intent to harm state security, and transmitting information that is likely to assist the enemy.
Potential sentences can range up to the death penalty, which has almost never been exercised.
