Former hostage tells Israel: 'We have not learned the lesson'
Omri Miran, who was held hostage by Hamas in Gaza for about two years, reflected on 1,000 days since October 7, 2023 in an interview with Kan News radio's morning program:
"We're growing stronger day by day as part of the rehabilitation process, both as a couple and as a family. Waking up at home in the morning is something people take for granted, but I value it. What can’t be overlooked is spending two years without waking up at home. One thousand days is a milestone, there’s no escaping it.
"In captivity, I may have been alive, but I wasn't living. On the national level, we don't see any change in the way things are being conducted. We haven't learned the lesson. Military officials first apologize, and then say it’s shameful. I don't see that from our leadership. Smotrich should stop talking nonsense. He bragged about having blocked so many deals. It's possible that more hostages would be here with us today had they not been murdered there. Nitzan Alon knows the facts better than I do."
Addressing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Miran said: “Take responsibility. Start dealing with what taking responsibility means instead of dealing with the Torah study bill that will buy you another two weeks in office.”
