EU expects sanctions against violent settlers, top diplomat says
The European Union is expected to reach an agreement on sanctioning violent settlers, EU top diplomat Kaja Kallas said ahead of a Foreign Affairs Council meeting on Monday.
“I expect political agreement on the sanctions of violent settlers - hopefully we will get there,” said Kallas, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
Asked about measures including a full ban, trade restrictions and CFSP sanctions, Kallas said there was currently no majority among member states to adopt them, while talks continue on a French-Swedish proposal targeting trade with settlements.
“I really do hope that we have a political agreement regarding the violent settlers' sanctions, that has been on the table for quite some time,” she added.
